COCA Welcomes New Member

COCA is delighted to announce the addition of the Walls and Ceilings Contractors Association (WACCA) as our newest member. Established in 1950 as the Ottawa Lathing, Plastering and Acoustical Contractors Association, WACCA was formed to address emerging labor relations issues and to collaboratively tackle the industry’s shared challenges. Over the years, the association has evolved its focus, advocating for industry standards and promoting the interests of its members to the public.

In 1976, the organization rebranded to its current name, the Walls and Ceilings Contractors Association (WACCA), and has since played a vital role in labor relations, industry advocacy, and collective agreement negotiations. WACCA members are signatories to four collective agreements that cover both the Industrial, Commercial, and Institutional (ICI) sectors as well as the residential construction sector. As WACCA approaches its 75th anniversary in 2025, it continues to uphold its commitment to supporting its members and advancing the industry.

Leading WACCA is Executive Director Derek Smith, who brings a wealth of experience from his previous role as Executive Director of the London and District Construction Association. He is also the principal of Constructionlab Ltd., a firm dedicated to providing professional services to the construction industry across
Canada.
